King's School - Auckland

Boys only
Pre-School - 8
Est. 1922
  • Every boy at King’s School has a core curriculum of English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Information Technology, Physical Education, Religious Education, French, Art, Drama and Dance.

A specialist teaching system is operated throughout the school, which means a boy may be taught by as many as eight different teachers each week.  This system enables boys to experience expert teachers in their fields who are passionate about their subject.

Classes in core subjects such as Mathematics and English are broken into small groups to allow for targeted individual teaching.

King’s School follows the curriculum guidelines of the New Zealand Government Ministry of Education and adds a broad range of other skills placing a strong importance of the need for boys to be creative, innovative and enterprising thinkers.

  • At King’s we have as many as 10 support and enrichment staff on hand to provide specialist individual tutoring to those that either need extension programmes or special help with their learning.

Christian and Values education are integral parts of the King’s curriculum.  Chapel Services are an essential part of life at King’s School and are central to the values and character we wish to nurture in our boys.

A point of difference at King’s is that we provide a unique format for teaching music to our students.  Every boy from Year 4 learns a musical instrument of their choice and plays regularly in a band, regardless of their experience.  They learn to play in a social environment and to perform regularly to the community.  We currently have 400 boys regularly playing in bands.

King’s has an extensive outdoor education programme.  This is designed to encourage boys to develop self-awareness and confidence and enable them to experience a wide range of outdoor activities, together with the challenge and adventure that accompany these.

  • The facilities at King’s School are second to none.  We have a full size heated indoor pool and gymnasium allowing the boys to swim year round.  An indoor Sportsdome with 2 basketball courts, badminton, table tennis and a full range of gymnastic equipment.  There are 6 tennis courts on a brand new Astroturf surface, which allows for hockey in the winter.  In addition to these, there are two other playing fields on the school grounds for rugby, soccer, cricket and softball.  There is a cross-country run within the grounds, an adventure playground and also 6 cricket nets.

The recently built Lighthouse at King’s School provides for the very latest technology and classroom layout.  There are 3 Art studios in this building, 2 Science laboratories, a TV and Media studio, an ICT theatre and a large library facility with lecture rooms available for visiting speakers.

The school also has a Performing Arts Hall where school productions, concerts and assemblies are held.
