King's School - Auckland
King’s School is a leading independent day primary school for boys (4 – 13 year olds). Established in 1922 the school caters for 680 boys and is situated in the centre of Auckland city on a ridge overlooking Auckland Harbour.
King’s is a place where traditions meet innovative teaching, and academic discipline is balanced with creative and reflective thinking. At King’s our focus is to recognize every boy as an individual and offer the opportunities to discover his full potential.
“The decision to send your boy to King’s School is a choice, but it is a choice that shapes his future. We have a responsibility to ensure he reaches his full potential. We encourage the students here at King’s to be self-motivated, to strive to do their best in everything they do and to have the confidence to take risks. Our students today are among those who will be thinkers and leaders in the 21st Century.
As Headmaster I have a clear belief that we need to lead in the field of education. Every boy should have the opportunity to be nurtured to reach his full potential. I believe strongly that the school has a responsibility to care for each individual and to create an environment which acknowledges and celebrates boys’ successes – developing a culture where it is great to succeed and where the boys are encouraged to develop strong self-esteem.
Our job is to ensure every boy who is part of the King’s School family feels valued and is proud of the work he achieves. We will provide the students with the tools to enable them to be able to express themselves clearly and to share their ideas; to be creative, innovative and enterprising thinkers; to be curious, inquiring and open-minded and to know how to gather and analyse information and make informed decisions.
These are the tools that boys will need for tomorrow’s world.”

Every boy at King’s School has a core curriculum of English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Information Technology, Physical Education, Religious Education, French, Art, Drama and Dance.
A specialist teaching system is operated throughout the school, which means a boy may be taught by as many as eight different teachers each week. This system enables boys to experience expert teachers in their fields who are passionate about their subject.
Classes in core subjects such as Mathematics and English are broken into small groups to allow for targeted individual teaching.
King’s School follows the curriculum guidelines of the New Zealand Government Ministry of Education and adds a broad range of other skills placing a strong importance of the need for boys to be creative, innovative and enterprising thinkers.
At King’s we have as many as 10 support and enrichment staff on hand to provide specialist individual tutoring to those that either need extension programmes or special help with their learning.
Christian and Values education are integral parts of the King’s curriculum. Chapel Services are an essential part of life at King’s School and are central to the values and character we wish to nurture in our boys.
A point of difference at King’s is that we provide a unique format for teaching music to our students. Every boy from Year 4 learns a musical instrument of their choice and plays regularly in a band, regardless of their experience. They learn to play in a social environment and to perform regularly to the community. We currently have 400 boys regularly playing in bands.
King’s has an extensive outdoor education programme. This is designed to encourage boys to develop self-awareness and confidence and enable them to experience a wide range of outdoor activities, together with the challenge and adventure that accompany these.
The facilities at King’s School are second to none. We have a full size heated indoor pool and gymnasium allowing the boys to swim year round. An indoor Sportsdome with 2 basketball courts, badminton, table tennis and a full range of gymnastic equipment. There are 6 tennis courts on a brand new Astroturf surface, which allows for hockey in the winter. In addition to these, there are two other playing fields on the school grounds for rugby, soccer, cricket and softball. There is a cross-country run within the grounds, an adventure playground and also 6 cricket nets.
The recently built Lighthouse at King’s School provides for the very latest technology and classroom layout. There are 3 Art studios in this building, 2 Science laboratories, a TV and Media studio, an ICT theatre and a large library facility with lecture rooms available for visiting speakers.
The school also has a Performing Arts Hall where school productions, concerts and assemblies are held.
